Terena
Thomas

Terena
began training dogs and winning at the age of nine! Now with more
than a decade of high scores in the AKC Obedience and competition
show rings, she has honed her skills as a trainer. In 1986 she
refused to use the choke and pinch methods of training on her
best friend. Since that time she has been a pioneer for powerful
and effective training without fear and pain. Humane training
is a priority at the Animal Behavior Academy!
Terena
is one of the few trainers in Colorado certified by the Association
of Pet Dog Trainers (APDT). She also holds memberships in the
Roaring Fork Kennel Club Director, the Delta Society, and the
International Association of Canine Professionals.
She
is a founding partner of Hound Heaven, Ltd., a non-profit organization
that trains and places service animals.
Terena is also certified through the North American Riding for
the Handicapped Assoc. as a registered Horseback Riding Instructor.
Her family genealogy includes Clyde Beatty the Lion Tamer! Using
the skills of Hollywood trainers Terena’s animals have performed
in schools, churches, clubs and many other events. Her work with
high-risk children and the rehabilitation of all kinds of animals
with histories of abuse further compounds her belief in training
without pain, fear or intimidation.
Terena holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology from the
University of Colorado. She has presented her behavior modification
techniques in the US and internationally. Cambridge University
is currently reviewing Terena’s research for publication.
